Kentucky Wesleyan freshman class volunteers at 14 Owensboro sites

The Kentucky Wesleyan freshman class kicked off its college experience with a day of volunteering in the community during new student orientation. A total of 315 new students, orientation leaders and faculty served 14 sites throughout Owensboro.

According to Victoria Buchanan, director of student involvement and orientation, students enthusiastically worked throughout the city and did everything from walking dogs at Daviess County Animal Care and Control to interacting with children at Newton Parrish Elementary School and much more.

“This is one way we introduce our new students to The Wesleyan Way [love in Christ, support, honor and integrity],” explained Buchanan. “But it’s only the beginning. Community service takes place throughout the year with athletic teams and Greek and other student organizations. Students are already talking about ways they can reach out and serve others while they are here.”

In addition to services opportunities throughout the academic year, a similar full day of service will take place in the spring. The fall semester began on Tuesday, Aug. 20.
